Marine Category Highly Commended, British Wildlife Photography Awards 2009
Sanderlings migrate from their Arctic tundra breeding grounds back to the UK to spend the winter months feeding on our estuaries. Their lives are governed by the tide and when they are feeding they are constantly running backwards and forwards avoiding the incoming tide. I had spent the whole day trying to capture this behavior but they are so fast I found it extremely difficult to keep up with them.
