Fallow deer

October

October is my favourite time of the year as the annual rut of both Red and Fallow kicks off. I have been photographing this spectacle for many years now and I never tire of it, in fact I get more excited by it as I get older. I like the challenge of capturing it in the camera and I am always looking at photographing the Deer in a different way. This year has been quite tough because it started very late because of the mild weather and it never really reached a pinnacle. I still managed to get images though and I just had to work a little bit harder. This image is one of my favourite's from this year and shows a dominant Fallow Buck on his rutting stand in the early morning. I got into position just before the sun had started to rise and once it did the whole scene was bathed in glorious light.
