Male Capercaillie Displaying

I have had a love affair with Scotland for many years and I have had some amazing encounters with wildlife on many occasions throughout that time. The last time I photographed Capercaillie was in Norway a few years back but this past week I got the chance to Photograph one in Scotland and it was fantastic to see this beautiful bird again at such close quarters. Capercaillies have seriously declined over the past twenty years and now there is only around 1,000 birds left and even that number is thought to be over estimated. Habitat loss is the major factor in this alarming decline but with a trend of wetter springs breeding failure is now a serious concern.
