Crested Tit

February 2012

The Crested Tit is a sedentary species in Scotland and its strong hold is in the Spey Valley.  I took this image in the Cairngorms National Park in February at a feeding station.  I photographed this beautiful bird on lots of different perches but I wanted to try and convey the bird in its environment.  I eventually used this small Scots pine sapling which looked great backlighting especially using the dark background by the nearby forest. It was a long wait for the Crested Tit to land in exactly the right spot, but eventually it did and this is one of my favourite images that I have taken this year.
